WADENA — A crew of comedic characters come together for three performances of “Clue” November 17, 18 and 19 at the Memorial Auditorium.

The performances are a culmination of the Wadena-Deer Creek drama department’s fall play, which started with auditions Oct. 3.

Drama director Beth Hawkins said the group is sticking with a show that’s full of laughs thanks to the great combination of murder, mystery and humor.

Over 20 students make up the cast this year and those cast members say the play is wrought with twists, turns and fantastic set design.

“Our cast and crew chemistry is really good – we get a lot of things done,” Kelanie Oldakowski, playing Mrs. White said backstage during dress rehearsals.

“The crew busted their butts and they did an awesome job. I’m very impressed,” Maxwell Pichardo, playing Mr. Green said. This being Pichardo’s first year involved, he found the process impressive to go from a first look at a script, to being prepared to go before a crowd.

The cast includes those you may be familiar with if you've seen "Clue" before. It also adds in some characters like Dr. Orchid, a botanist who certainly stands out.

A crew of about 15 stage hands have come together to put together some amazing sets that are full of details in this roughly 90 minute show that has no intermission.

A more seasoned member of the cast, senior Madelyn Gallant said this performance stands out as one that really depends on a strong crew behind the scenes.

“This definitely has the most moving pieces involved, if we didn’t have the good crew we wouldn’t be able to do this with the flipping of the scenes and all the different scenes,” Gallant said.

This is Hawkins sixth year with the drama department and she said the show is a great entertainment for the community to see the talent that these students possess.

This year’s group of seniors holds a special place for Hawkins as they’re the first to have been involved in drama during her entire run as drama director. Hawkins took over the department from longtime director Jay Patterson. Patterson led the drama department for 39 years before that.
