The Wadena-Deer Creek Drama Department will be performing a musical comedy called "Kilroy Was Here!" this next Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, Nov. 18-20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Auditorium.
Set in the 1940s during World War II, the story revolves around a mysterious character who left a drawing and the words "Kilroy was here!" wherever he went. No one really knew for sure who this Kilroy was, but the appearance of this drawing of a funny man looking over a wall became a point of encouragement for troops when they saw it.
The musical is a special tribute to the USO, an organization still working today. They provide entertainment for our troops overseas. In the past Bob Hope was a central comedian who often went on USO sponsored tours. The musical is also a special tribute to the spirit of America. The songs rally behind the love Americans have for their country and the respect they have for each branch of the military.
The musical is especially appropriate in our community because it celebrates that togetherness and love and neighborliness that has helped us all through the past few months. Enjoy a great night of theater. Tickets will be available at the door.
