A ten-week course in portrait sculpture with Matthew Kindy is being held at the Historic Holmes Theatre in Detroit Lakes.
Classes will be on Tuesday evenings from Feb. 2 through April 5. Registration is due by Tuesday, Jan. 19. Whether you've always wanted to try sculpting or have sculpted before, instructor Matthew Kindy ensures a fun, insightful and relaxing experience for all.
This course is perfect for both beginners and intermediates alike. The class will choose what subject they want to sculpt as a group. The course will cover "right-size" method of sculpting, composition, expression in detail, aspects of planning, base and armature construction, base design and mold making.
Matthew Kindy received his art training in figurative and portrait sculpture from the Minnesota River School of Fine Art, as well as from a number of individuals. He studied the Sight-Size method of sculpting under Jason Arkles and mold-making under Foster Willey. Matthew is also a classically trained wood carver specializing in architectural and decorative works. He worked under the tutelage of Konstantinos Papadakis, a Greek master. Matthew moved his business from the Minneapolis area to Detroit Lakes in December of 2013. He sculpts, carves, designs and makes furniture for private residences and offices, and creates intricate ecclesiastical works for churches.
All classes cancelled due to bad weather will be made up at the end of the course.
