WADENA — A Minnesota author with ties to Wadena his releasing his second novel that dives into murder in the Northwoods.
Fredrick Soukup tells a perilous tale of blood bonds and vengeance in his new novel, Blood Up North. The work of literary fiction explores the measure of villainy a young woman must employ to ensure her own survival, according to a news release from the author.

“Having grown up in northern Minnesota, I aimed to tell a story about the burdens small-town America’s impoverishment can place on women,” Soukup said of his experience writing the 244-page novel, which portrays an innocent woman’s quest to protect her criminal brother. “The devastation of poverty, opioids, crime, and corruption in small towns can leave a weight for women to carry—this is a dynamic I explore in Blood Up North.”

The novel centers on young Cass, who agrees to help her brother hide cash he stole from a drug dealer. To protect herself, she must fend off their corrupt cop uncle, lawless cousins, and vicious father. The story will appeal to fiction readers who enjoy gritty, fast-paced thrillers.
Interested readers can pre-order the book in paperback from local bookstores and major outlets for $17.99. The novel releases February 15, when it will be available in stores across the country.
