History in dance to be performed Nov. 30
Contempo Physical Dance will present SenZalma, a full-length work inspired by the poem O Navio Negreiro (The Slave Ship) by 19th Century Brazilian abolitionist and poet Antonio de Castro Alves at 7 p.m., Friday, Nov. 30 at the Wadena Memorial Auditorium. Directed and choreographed by Marciano Silva dos Santos, Contempo Physical Dance is recognized for its dynamic fusion of Afro-Brazilian dance, capoeira (a Brazilian martial arts form that combines elements of dance and music) and contemporary dance. Contempo Physical Dance is in Wadena thanks to a MN State Arts Board Arts Tour grant and a partnership with the New York Mills Regional Cultural Center. This activity made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Five Wings Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund. This is a free program for Fall 2018 from the Wadena County Historical Society.
