Join Mikko and Friends for an authentic Irish Paddy Party at Centennial Auditorium in Staples on Saturday, March 18, at 7:30 p.m., as part of the Staples-Motley Area Arts Council's regular season. The concert is underwritten by Mayer, Porter & Nelson, Ltd.

Celebrate spring with an evening of love, laughter and song. The "Irish pub" concert will include jigs and reels; songs and stories; old Irish and Scottish favorites gathered from the band members' travels in the Celtic communities of Canada, across the region and throughout Ireland.

According to their press release, "Mikko and Friends will bring you a grand array of Celtic tunes to warm your heart and set your toes tapping."

Band members include fiddling legend Christina Seaborn; "Penny-whistle Professor" Chuck Wencl; "Accordionist Extraordinaire" Annie O'Flynn; vocalist Doug Tatge, known for his stunning ballads and folk tunes; and Mikko Cowdery, who rounds out the show with classics like "Danny Boy," along with laughable toasts, jokes and stories of the band's travels.

Mikko and Annie were founding members of the Skilly & Duff Irish quartet that captured first place in the Celtic Music competition at the Irish Fair of Minnesota in 2009, which led to their musical travels in Ireland and the Maritime Provinces of Canada.

One of the common responses to a Mikko and Friends concert is, "It's like a trip to Ireland!"

This will be the final concert in this year's regular arts council season. The summer concert series in Staples, held at Northern Pacific Park on Sunday evening, begins July 9.
