'Brain on Art' event to feature variety of artistic sessions
Wellness in the Woods is hosting "This is Your Brain on Art," a healing through the arts event at Saturday, May 9 at the Maslowski Wellness and Research Center in Wadena.
The event will include fun for the family, along with learning. Since the original idea of the May 9 event, organizers have expanded their plan to include a series of artistic sessions. It will be from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and people can work on make-and-take art projects and learn more about food art, Native American art, silk painting, origami, crochet, art vendors and more.
This event will feature a presentation, "Drama with Brad Livingston - veteran's story of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder" at 6 p.m. that evening.
After this weekend's event, Wellness in the Woods is continuing its work to transform wellness into reality. On Aug. 7, Wellness in the Woods is hosting a concert featuring Shannon Curtis, who speaks of empathy and peer support through her music.
"The whole project is about finding ways for communities to come together," said Jode Freyholtz-London, founder and executive director of Wellness in the Woods. "What do we do to feel good and how can it enhance our community?"
An arts in the park event will be June 19 along with the Life Live It ducky drop.
Freyholtz-London is excited about the partnerships and building relationships with additional groups.
