Summer reading program kicks off May 14
The Wadena City Library will be closed on Monday, May 28 in observance of Memorial Day.
The Summer Reading Program is back! Starting on Monday, May 14, you can pre-register for our annual summer event. You may be wondering who can participate: from birth to any entering their senior year of high school are invited to read (or be read to) for 10-20 hours this summer. All youngsters from the Greater Wadena area, including Verndale, Sebeka, Deer Creek, Bluffton, Hewitt and Bertha are invited to come have fun with us this summer.
This year's theme is Reading Takes You Everywhere, focusing on geography, culture, and even space and time travel. Kids who complete the program will be entered into a drawing to win an age-appropriate range of grand prizes on Monday, July 30.
SRP Kickoff Show slated for June 4
St. Paul singer-songwriter Zachary Johnson comes to the Wadena City Library on Monday, June 4 at 1 p.m. He will do an all-ages concert to help kick off the Summer Reading Program. Families are invited to stop by and enjoy the show while signing up for the program.
There are several activities, programs and story times to be scheduled in June and July in conjunction with our annual summer event. We will have a special themed magic show by local favorite Professor Marvel as the program's finale on Monday July 30.
Successful Children's Book Week:
We want to express a very big thank you to WDC's second graders for their exceptional bookmarks in this year's contest. Winners in six categories were notified on Monday, given a certificate, a new book and their winning bookmark printed on cardstock. Every year, the Wadena City Library invites WDC students to the library for a special story time and voting on their bookmarks. This year, Library Assistant Dan read the wonderful story Gaston by author Kelly DiPucchio.
The Friends of the Library golf tournament set for June 15:
For the second year in a row, the Friends of the Library are hosting a fundraising golf tournament at Whitetail Run. Last year, participants had fun, though a summer storm ended the event early. Proceeds from this event, which includes a silent auction, will be placed in the Building Fund for renovation of the 1st National Bank Building.
