Pearl Markstrom

Pearl Markstrom, 89, of Henning, died Thursday, June 11, 2009, at the Broen Home in Fergus Falls.

She was born Oct. 24, 1919, in Nidaros Township of Otter Tail County, to John Friedolph and Mabel Josephine (Haagenson) Linder. She was baptized on March 11, 1920, and confirmed on Oct. 22, 1933 at Leaf Mountain Lutheran Church. She attended School District 283 through the eighth grade. She also attended night classes in a college for business. She worked at various jobs as a young woman, working at Baglo's Corner Cafe in Henning, Woolworth's in Minneapolis, and at Spurgeon's Ladies Apparel in Albert Lea, Minn. She was married Feb. 27, 1943, to Marvin H. Markstrom at Central Lutheran Church in Minneapolis by the Rev L. A. O. Stub. The couple lived in Minneapolis, Albert Lea, Fergus Falls and Henning. They owned and operated Markstrom Pharmacy in Fergus Falls, where she worked as an assistant. Following Marvin's death on March 20, 1967, she worked for Drs. Charles Lewis and Jay Kevern as a receptionist. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and had been active in the church as a Sunday School teacher, a worker on the church bulletin, was a member of the church council for several years, participated in Women's L.I.F.E -- Bible Study, was a member of the Altar Guild, a frequent visitor of the Henning Health Care Center, and was also a secretary of Faith Haven Bible Camp for 15 years. She enjoyed music, sewing, knitting, fishing and flowers, and traveling to Norway and Sweden in 1969.

Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, at Grace Lutheran Church in Henning, with the Rev. Rud Wasson officiating. Honorary casketbearers were Ronald Dilly, Patricia Vero, Richard Nelson, Janette Thompson, Steven Markstrom, Dean Linder and Robert Lenning. Active casketbearers were Sandra Cook, Carol Borg, Neal Nelson, Jr., Barbara Bjerketvedt, Bradley Linder and Steven Lenning. Interment is in Grace Cemetery, rural Henning. The Belmont Funeral Home in Henning ( was in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include her sisters, Ruby Dunn, Park Rapids, Marion Dilly, Erie, Colo., Jane Personne, Mesa, Ariz., and Shirley (Richard) Lenning, Fergus Falls; a brother, Bert (Mae) Linder, Clitherall; a sister-in-law, Katherine (Mrs. Reynold) Linder, Pampa, Texas; brother-in-law, Donald (Bonnie) Markstrom, Fort Collins, Colo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; her parents; sisters, Thelma and Norma; brother, Reynold; a nephew; a niece; and several brothers-in-law.
