Calvin Muckala

Funeral services were held for Calvin Muckala of New York Mills on Feb. 23, 2013, at Apostolic Lutheran Church in New York Mills, with Pastor Andy Tumberg officiating.

Calvin, 87, passed away Feb. 16, 2013, at the Elders' Home in New York Mills.

Calvin Wayne Richard Muckala was born Oct. 7, 1925, in Newton Township, Otter Tail County to the late John and Minnie (Petery) Muckala.

Calvin grew up on the family farm in Newtown Township, and later served in the U.S. Army.

On Dec. 23, 1956, Calvin was united in marriage to Pearl Ilene Berry. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Richard.

Calvin and Pearl continued running the family farm in Newton Township.

Calvin enjoyed visiting with family and friends. He also enjoyed politics.

He resided in the Elders' Home in New York Mills since 2010.

Preceding Calvin in death were his parents; brothers, William Muckala, Ernest (Elsie) Muckala and Milton Muckala; and sisters, Lillian (John) Aillie, Edna (Joe) Shirilla, Mary (Elmer) Johnson and Marcella (Chris) Tweed.

Calvin is survived by his wife, Pearl Muckala of New York Mills; son, Richard (Karen) Muckala of New York Mills; grandchildren, Kelly and Katy; sisters-in-law, Priscilla Muckala of Roswell, New Mexico and Beatrice Muckala of New York Mills; as well as other relatives and a host of friends.

He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Hymns were sung by the congregation, accompanied by Janet Tumberg.

Pallbearers were Kurt LaPoint, Dennis Johnson, Patty Jokela, Ed Berry, Ron Berry and Paul Tweed.

Honorary pallbearers were Jeff Frost, Jeff Rimpila, Jack Virnala, Scott Dau, Daryl Hunter and Bert Hanson.

Military Honors were provided by Charles D. Center V.F.W. Post #3289 of New York Mills and Minnesota Army National Guard, Honor Guard of Moorhead.

Calvin was laid to rest in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.

Arrangements were provided by Karvonen & Son Funeral Home of New York Mills.
