Tri-County Hospital is spreading the news about National Rehabilitation Week, Sept. 20-26, 2009. The week is designed to promote the value of rehabilitation, highlight the capabilities of people with disabilities, salute the professionals who provide service to people with disabilities and renew the nation's commitment to fulfill the unmet needs of people with disabilities.
"During National Rehabilitation Week, TCH recognizes the healing effects of rehabilitation and applauds the accomplishments of people with disabilities," said Shelagh Carlson, TCH rehabilitation manger. "It provides a great opportunity for our hospital to inform members of the community, patients and their families on the importance of rehabilitation in a patient's recovery."
National Rehabilitation Week was established in 1976 to create awareness of people with disabilities and the effects of rehabilitation. In 1990, a presidential proclamation designated the third week of September as National Rehabilitation Week, which has grown to include more than 7,000 organizations.
With the wide variety of services they offer, the TCH rehabilitation department is a busy place providing physical, occupational and speech therapy, athletic training, and infant/OB massage therapy services for outpatients, inpatients, home care patients, and residents of Fair Oaks Lodge nursing home.
