The Lions of District 5M9 recently held their midwinter convention at the Shooting Star Event Center in Mahnomen in January. At the Saturday luncheon, Lions Evie Ladd and Pat Hendrickx, co-chairs of the Lions Youth Outreach project, awarded nine scholarships, $1,000 each, to area college students.
Scholarship recipients must be in their third or fourth year in college and major in a career involving youth.
Marissa Jahnke, Wadena, along with her parents, was present at the luncheon to receive her scholarship award. Jahnke is a junior attending the University of North Dakota School of Medicine & Health Service, where her major is Occupational Therapy, providing services to children.
