They came for literary conversation and a reading. They got that, plus a ukulele sing-along and an improvisational comedy skit. Lorna Landvik rocked the dining room of The Uptown in Wadena at the monthly Book Ends event.

Landvick has authored eleven humorous novels beginning with her still best-selling Patty Jane's House of Curl. Her latest book Once in a Blue Moon Lodge is a sequel to her earlier book. She talked about the challenge of writing comedy and the inspiration for her characters and storylines. "Once the story gets moving," she said, "I let the characters speak for themselves."

Book Ends is a monthly meet-the-author event on second Saturdays beginning at 11 a.m. and concluding with lunch at The Uptown. It features Minnesota's most popular authors and is hosted by An Open Book. Lorna's books are available there.

July's guest author is Park Rapids native Will Weaver, author of Red Earth, White Earth and the short story A Gravestone Made of Wheat which was made into the movie Sweet Land. Put July 8 on your calendar, 11 a.m. at The Uptown, Wadena. Details at An Open Book, (218) 632-2665.
