The Radiothon To End Child Abuse ended at noon Friday for Hubbard Radio's radio stations in Wadena with staff and volunteers raising $12,777 over two days.

This was the 14th year of the Radiothon and this total brings the total amount raised at the station to over $290,000.

These funds along with other Hubbard Radio stations efforts go to support a four-county area (Hubbard, Otter Tail, Todd, and Wadena counties) to tackle child abuse, according to the SuperStation K-106 website.

The first Radiothon to End Child Abuse was organized by Lou Buron and Mary Campbell at a Twin Cities radio station in 1987. At that time Lou was chairman of the Minnesota Committee for the Prevention of Child Abuse. The MCPCA was chronically short of funding and the Radiothon concept promised to help create a financial foundation for the committee. MCPCA's name was later changed to Prevent Child Abuse Minnesota.
