Joining Open Book and the Harvest Thyme Bistro, a new Center for the Arts is opening mid-January in the Bernauer Building in Wadena. The Center will provide space for life long learning classes in all forms of art, as well as gallery space for display and sales of artistic products. The upper level of the building (formerly the Masonic Hall) will be developed as a studio space for dance, yoga and other types of classes as well as a venue for the performing arts. There will also be studio space for working artists and art related businesses.
Community members and artists of all disciplines are invited on Jan. 21 to help shape the vision and business model for the center. Michele Anderson, the new Lake Region office program director of Springboard for the Arts, will be leading the session.
"Springboard for the Arts has been helping artists in Minnesota for 20 years and they are committed to working in our rural area," said Rowland Joiner, one of the building's owners.
The program begins at 1 p.m. in the lower level below Open Book. Anyone who would like to eat at Harvest Thyme Bistro can join the group for lunch at noon. There will be a special discount for participants.
Starting at 1 p.m. is "Creative Expression and Rural Life," led by Michele Anderson and followed by a tour and discussion about the new Arts Center.

At 3:30 p.m. will be happy hour -- coffee and wine will be served. Meet others who are interested in supporting the arts in the region and get your questions answered.
