The new Firehouse Apartments on U.S. Highway 10 just west of Wadena are open for rent.
Tim and Christina Theisen, owners of Theisen Construction, purchased the old Country Manor motel building in 2011 and remodeled it inside and out to convert the rooms into mostly studio apartments.
Several renters have already moved in. Christina Theisen said the tenants are mostly single people who don't need much and don't mind a small living space.
"Between the first of the year and now... it's been filling quite quickly," Theisen said.
The majority of the apartments are ready for moving into.

Theisen said the rates include utilities like heat, electric, air conditioning, garbage, well water and sewer but renters are on their own for internet, cable and phone service.
However, they are planning for a community room to have coin-operated washer and dryer and wireless internet access.
The Theisens also plan to open a Firehouse bar and restaurant in the old restaurant section as well, aiming for the summer.
They met with the township to gain approval for the liquor license as a first step, and met with the health inspector for tips and pointers on opening the bar.
"Both of us have been on the other side of the bar industry - I waitressed and bartended, and Tim has bartended and he's also sold and delivered beer for ten years," Christina Theisen said, adding that it would be their first time owning and managing a bar and restaurant.
