What started as a hobby has turned into a business venture for Ashley Christiansen.
"I enjoy doing interior design and wanted to open a space to showcase some of that work," she said.
Modern Touch Designs Boutique & Coffee Shop will open Saturday, Aug. 20 with an open house. The boutique will feature assorted furniture, candles, jewelry and home decor.
Christiansen worked as an insurance agent and decided recently to take the plunge and open her own business. She has done furniture refurbishing, interior painting and home decor for mostly residential spaces and enjoys working with people to create a comfortable space.
Some of the most popular trends right now include rustic and antique furniture and decor, she said.
Events will be planned at the boutique, including a painting event and fall festival. She wants to work with people who want to have shopping parties at the boutique as well.
The coffee portion of the business will include lattes, mochas and gourmet coffees, along with smoothies, bagels, fruit cups and other take-and-go items. A drive-through will be available for a quick coffee fix.
An open house is planned for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 20. A paint and sip event is at 6 p.m. Aug. 20.
Hours for the business will be 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Christiansen will be working at the boutique daily and will have one full time employee and some fill-in workers.
Christiansen lives in Sebeka with her two sons, Cohen, 10, and Beckett, 3.
