Question: I'm wondering, is the use of blinkers a state law or only an optional courtesy suggestion? It seems to me that the use of cell phones has increased, the use of blinkers has decreased. Also, if it is a law — in changing lanes or making a turn, at what point should the blinker be put on (how far ahead of the turn?) Thank you!
According to an article published in a 1927 edition of the Pioneer Journal, the first meeting to seriously consider the improvement of roads was held in Wadena in 1912. It was attended mostly by automobile owners. A year later, the auto owners met again, this time in Sebeka, and took the first steps to arrange a systematic road building program for the entire county. In 1915, it was announced that the Jefferson Highway would pass through Wadena and in August of that year $1100 was raised by public subscription and spent in improving the road approaches to the village of Wadena.

When this column hits the newsstands, Wadena-Deer Creek High School will already be knee-deep in the 2013-14 winter sports season. Dance, wrestling, boys and girls basketball, boys and girls hockey, and cheerleading will be rolling, not to mention the conclusion of the fall play in the Memorial Auditorium. Winter is a time when one needs a shoe horn to fit another activity in our gyms and ice sheets. Then our glorious Minnesota winter will show herself and already crazy winter sports schedules will become even crazier as activities directors scramble to make up lost games.
As Americans, the holiday of Thanksgiving holds a special significance to us; our Thanksgiving holiday is a time that shares the spheres of patriotism and worship as we remember God's protections of our national forefathers and reflect on God's daily goodness and provisions to us.
Ethelyn Pearson Seventy years ago on Nov. 12, 1943, John Gordon Askew and Geraldine Stuntebeck were married in the sacristy of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Wadena by Father Huersch. It was so cold their vows made frozen clouds in the air. World War II was still on. Fuel was scarce and rationed.
