Take a pile of surplus lumber, most of it needing sanding and a good cleaning...a guy with the right idea at the right time--along with the equipment to carry it out...the creativity of 60 kids and families...and a commitment to Catholic education; and what do you get? One of the most unique fundraising ideas in the 125-year history of St. Henry's Catholic Church school. Actually, it may be one of the most novel fundraisers for the Perham area in general. Sixty child-size "Adirondack" chairs have been built by John Kratzke.
By Rin Porter Special Correspondent A group of officials who are stakeholders in the Perham Resource Recovery Facility (PRRF), known as "the incinerator" or "the garbage burner", got together on January 28 to discuss its future. The PRRF is located in Perham and owned by the city of Perham. It burns 35,000 tons of garbage collected annually from residences and businesses in Otter Tail, Todd, Stearns, and Wadena counties, after recyclable materials are removed. The burning process makes steam that is sold to two Perham industries that use it to run their production facilities.
A terrified Perham woman discovered a strange man with a knife standing in the kitchen of her home at 4 a.m. on Friday, January 25. According to police records, the woman woke up around 4 a.m. to let her dogs outside. After putting the dogs in an outdoor kennel, the woman went back into her house in northeast Perham to fire up a woodstove in the basement. Upon returning upstairs, she found a man standing in her kitchen. The woman reportedly screamed at the intruder to get out of her house, asking what he wanted.
By John George sports@eot Everyone into the Minnesota sports scene know's who Crunch is. He's the high-flying mascot for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Although he's known for his on-court antics, he's a quite, humble, even shy wolf when he's off the court. After making his fourth appearance in Perham last Friday to cheer on the Yellowjacket boys basketball team in their win over Pelican Rapids, Crunch finally decided to sit down with me and "let his hair down" in this exclusive interview. Where did you grow up? Where does your pack hail from?

A community project that started in a 10 x 12 foot shed has now expanded into a growing clothing mission taking over the entire basement of Richville United Methodist Church. As the demand for clothing has risen in the region, the Richville clothing shed has undergone several changes to stay abreast with the need. Today, the clothing shed serves families in five counties. The mission, which was started in 2001, was soon in need of a larger space than the small shed provided.
