ST. PAUL -- One of the big days of the Minnesota legislative session arrives Thursday, when state fiscal leaders announce how state revenues and spending are doing. The budget forecast, released twice a year, tells legislators and Gov. Mark Dayton how much the state has to spend or, most often in recent years, how big a deficit they face. The November forecast showed a $1.1 billion deficit. Dayton released his budget on Jan.
PARKERS PRAIRIE, Minn. - A rural Parkers Prairie man heard what sounded like a crop-dusting plane with engine trouble about 6:25 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a loud crash. When Gayle Snook went out to investigate, he discovered the wreckage of a plane in some trees about 90 yards from his home. Otter Tail County sheriff's officials on Thursday identified the victim as 41-year-old Adam Menze of Ottertail.
Animal lovers from around the region are getting ready to cough up some Hairball funds, as the Marshmallow Foundation prepares for its second annual Hairball. The big spring fundraiser is being held at Zorbaz at the Lake in Detroit Lakes on March 10 beginning at 4 p.m. as a way to raise money for the non-profit animal rescue and shelter.

5 Years Ago Excerpts from the Feb. 21, 2008 Pioneer Journal Mother and daughter escape fire south of Wadena on Feb.13 A woman was taken to the hospital for burns on her hands and feet, but her daughter was unharmed after both escaped a mobile home fire Wednesday afternoon. Sheriff Mike Carr said Thursday the Wadena County Sheriff's Office responded at 4:33 p.m. Feb.13 to a mobile home structure fire at Pine View Acres south of Wadena.
