They may have appeared bad to the bone, but a massive group of bikers in New York Mills were really more good to the core, as the 16th Annual Ronald McDonald House Ride took place last Saturday. This proved to be quite the biker gang, too, as 714 registered bikers were revving their engines and taking to the road for the event. The ride began in New York Mills and went approximately 106 miles before ending at the New York Mills VFW, where dinner was served.

Five members of the boys and girls track teams earned the right to compete at state last weekend and three of them made the All State Honors team by placing in the top nine in their events.
Over one hundred Wadena citizens enjoyed feathered friends Monday at WDC Elementary. Dan Hnilicka, Interpretive Naturalist with The Raptor Center in St. Paul, brought four birds to the program, put on by the Wadena City Library. The birds, which included a peregrine falcon, great horned owl, red-tailed hawk and a bald eagle, drew gasps and laughs from the crowd as they munched on raw meat and dead mice.

Ross began March 1 as the club's first Professional Golfers Association pro, just barely ahead of the construction that will transform the clubhouse. Amid the sheets of plastic and sawdust, Ross conducts business.
The Wadena VFW Post No. 3922 hosted a flag raising ceremony and Memorial Day program May 29 to honor local fallen heroes. The US Flag was raised to half-staff early Monday morning at the Wadena cemetery. About a dozen people braved the cold, cloudy, windy day to participate in the ceremony. Because of the inclement weather, the Memorial Day service, originally set for the Veterans Memorial in Sunnybrook Park, was moved to the Memorial Auditorium at the Wadena-Deer Creek Elementary School.

Matuska will succeed retiring WTC President Lowell Rasmussen. Wadena School Board members met in a special meeting Tuesday night and voted unanimously for Matuska.
