The old kennel ordinance in Wadena that has been around since the 1980's surrounding the number of dogs a resident can own is bringing out new emotions once again. It's a city ordinance that is complaint-driven, meaning if somebody has three or more dogs but nobody complains about the noise, they're allowed to keep all of the dogs. Authorities there have said they're not out there "headhunting"; however, if somebody complains of too much barking from a house that holds three dogs or more, the law is enforced.
There are many days when I am cooking for just me and more times than not, I make a sandwich or a light salad. When I want something different, this is my go-to recipe. The sweetness of the cranberries pairs very nicely with the savory flavors of the chicken and avocado. It is a healthy, quick meal that is perfect for those days when you want to feel special but don't want to slave away in the kitchen. Enjoy! Cranberry Chicken Avocado Bowls Makes one serving • ½ small avocado, diced • 4 oz. canned chicken • 1 Tbsp. dried cranberries

In a settlement conference July 12 at the Wadena County courthouse, attorneys for the state and the defendant came before Seventh Judicial District Judge Robert Raupp to inform him that they were unable to come to an agreement, which would have avoided a jury trial.
Independence Day might be over, but that doesn't mean you can't still have picnics with friends and family. I love a good potluck when I can relax with good company and lots of laughs. The cowboys drew a large crowd Friday night. Central Minnesota Bulls-N-Barrels returned to the fair for the fourth year, entertaining capacity crowds with bucking bulls, barrel races, a rodeo clown and a kids race. A total of 22 bull riders competed in the event. Six returned for the short round. There were 16 barrel racers in the performance round and 17 barrel racers in slack. Bubba Greig, a 16-year-old from Estherville, Iowa, won the grand prize and was the only rider to stay on his bull for 8.2 seconds. Greig is the Iowa high school rodeo champ.
One of the best things about summer is all the fairs and festivals that happen. I love going to the county fair. There is always a lot of fun, new things to do and new foods to taste. One of my favorite treats is caramel apples. This recipe for caramel apples adds a twist with crispy bacon. Bacon and caramel is a delicious combination, as is bacon and apples — so why not douse chewy candy apples with chunks of crisp, salty bacon? It doesn't get much better than this — the perfect balance of crisp, chewy, crunchy, salty and sweet. Enjoy!
