Approximately 60 people participated in the Someplace Safe 5K Saturday. The event, in it's third year, was held in Sunnybrook Park. A variety of people, young and old, runners and walkers, babies in strollers and furry friends, took advantage of the sunny day to support Someplace Safe. Ross Stueve took first place in the men's division with a winning time of 25.48. Jen Bryniairski was the first woman to cross the finish line with a time of 27.54.

Bielema has talked with Johnson Memorial owners Jon and Henry Johnson about selling his business for some time, he said. He thought it would be a smooth transition. "They know the community and the people know them," he said. I think it's best for the community."

Not guilty. Antonio St. Marie said those words nine times after Judge Robert Raupp read each of the nine counts against him at his omnibus hearing May 4. St. Marie is accused of murdering his estranged wife, Margaret St. Marie. The Wadena man walked into the courtroom, took his seat and looked back at the victim's family and friends before the proceeding began. St. Marie, 26, is being charged with the following counts: • Count I - Murder in the First Degree (premeditation) • Count II - Murder in the First Degree (while committing kidnapping)

Madhatters Community Theatre will present "Kitchen Witches" a comedy, May 5 and 6 at 7 p.m. and May 7 at 2 p.m. in the Bernauer Building in Wadena. The comedy, directed by Michelle Curtis, will also have performances May 12-13 at 7 p.m. at the Bernauer Building and May 14 at 2 p.m. at Fair Oaks Lodge. There will be limited public seating for the performance at Fair Oaks. Tickets are available at Thrifty White and online at www.madhattersinc.org . Tickets are $10 in advance or $12 at the door. The play is funded in part by the Five Wings Arts Council.

South Country Health Alliance took a loss last year. Scott Schufman, CEO of South Country Health Alliance and Leota Lind, Executive Director, came before the Wadena County Board April 18 to give their semi-annual report for the county-based organization charged with providing Medicare and Medicaid services.
