10 years ago Excerpts from the July 22, 2004 Pioneer Journal • Greyhound Bus to end city stop Greyhound Bus will no longer make stops in Wadena beginning Aug. 18 as part of a company-wide plan to phase out unprofitable stops. Wadena is one of 59 cities throughout the state to be losing the bus service. Kim Plaskett, a spokesperson for the company, said she didn't have any information about how many people traveled from the Wadena stop each day but said the departure times at 10:37 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. were on the Chicago-Seattle route.

Not only is it filling and delicious, but incredibly easy and quick to prepare. Enjoy. Black bean and egg scramble Makes four servings • ¼ c. olive oil • 8 eggs, beaten • 2 (15 oz) cans black beans, drained • 2 avocados, peeled and sliced • ½ c. salsa • salt and pepper to taste Heat olive oil in a small pan over medium heat. Building a new airport has been an issue for nearly 30 years and was finally built in Otter Tail County, off Hwy. 29 west of Wadena. The airport opened Dec.

15 years ago Excerpts from the July 1, 1999 Pioneer Journal • Fire at Outpost Grill Wadena firefighters were called out early Tuesday morning to a fire at the Outpost Grill on Aldrich Avenue. The Outpost owners, Roy and Cassie Booker, were not home at the time of the fire and could not be reached for comment. Firemen contained the fire within the walls with minimal damage to the structure. All of Wadena's 20 firemen answered the 5 a.m. alarm and stayed with the fire about two hours.

10 years ago Excerpts from the June 24, 2004 Pioneer Journal • Peterson crowned Miss Wadena Tegan Peterson, Miss Wadena 2004, has nothing but good things to say about the Miss Wadena pageant and it's not just because she won. In fact, she liked participating in the pageant so much that she was in it twice. Peterson won first princess in the 2003 pageant, so she knew what to expect this year. "It was just as fun the second time, and a lot easier," Peterson said.
Independence Day is just around the corner and, for most people, is a time for family to gather for fireworks and feasts. Not only do we celebrate the birth of our nation, but also the diversity of our people, who make up our identity. In keeping with those themes, my family blends a traditional American food with some creative twists - the gourmet hot dog.
