REYKJAVIK, ICELAND—A southeastern Minnesota couple died in a fishing accident Sunday, May 19, while on vacation in Iceland. Janet Veit's sister confirmed their deaths on Facebook. There were conflicting accounts about what happened to the La Crescent residents.. The U.S. Embassy in Iceland told the family that Veit fell out of a boat while fishing on a lake, and her husband, Brian Schumacher, jumped in to save her.
EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn.—Blogger and food writer Molly Yeh will be starring in food show premiering next month. The Food Network announced Tuesday, May 15, the writer whose blog is titled "My Name is Yeh" will be the focus of a show titled "Girl Meets Farm," starting at 11 a.m. June 24. Originally from Chicago, and a previous resident of New York City, Yeh moved to East Grand Forks in 2013 with her husband, Nick Hagen, a local farmer.
FORADO, Minn. — A man who was assaulted outside of a bar and grill has died from his injuries. Steven "Beaver" Hlinsky, 46, a long-time Forada firefighter, died Sunday afternoon, May 13, at his home, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office, which received a 911 call from the Hlinsky residence. Hlinsky, who was unresponsive when first responders arrived, was pronounced and an autopsy has been ordered, according to the Sheriff's Office.
NEW LONDON, Minn. — A New London boy died Wednesday after being injured last month in a car crash. According to the family's CaringBridge site, Nathaniel Shumaker, 11, died at the Hennepin County Medical Center in Minneapolis. He was critically injured March 28 when a vehicle driven by his brother, Josh Shumaker, 16, collided with a semi-truck on state Highway 23 near Paynesville.

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. – Two people have been arrested and charged with Third Degree Murder in connection with the death of a 6-year-old boy here, and his sibling has been taken into protective custody. Bobbie Christine Bishop, 40, and Walter Henry Wynhoff, 44, both of Fergus Falls, were being held Tuesday, April 10, in Otter Tail County Jail and both are charged with Third Degree Murder.
MENAHGA, Minn. – A Nevis man was injured when a turkey flew out of a ditch and smashed through the windshield of a pickup in Wadena County in northwest Minnesota on Sunday afternoon, March 18, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. Thomas Walls, 38, who was a passenger in the vehicle was treated for injuries that weren't life-threatening at Tri-County Health Care in Wadena, the Patrol reported. HOLLOWAY, Minn. – The Swift County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a crash with multiple injuries on Monday, March 12, about 4 p.m. between a Hancock Public School transport van and a semi at a rural intersection north of Holloway in far west-central Minnesota. Swift County Sheriff John Holtz said late Monday night that seven schoolchildren, ages 8 to 16, were injured along with the woman who was driving the van. He said all eight have been taken to hospitals.
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. - An Andover, Minn. woman is dead and 14 others were injured after a van full of Twins fans leaving a spring training game in Fort Myers, Fla., was hit from behind by a man whose blood alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, the Sun Sentinel of Broward County reported.
EMILY, Minn. -- A 52-year-old Crosslake man has died after he was found on his snowmobile on a trail near Emily in north-central Minnesota. The possible snowmobile crash was on a trail near Ruth Lake, north of the city of Emily, at about 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28, according to Capt. Scott Goddard.
