DETROIT LAKES, Minn. — A 54-year-old Fargo man was rescued from a deer stand just outside of Detroit Lakes Thursday morning, Jan. 11, after spending what had to have been a long, harrowing night there. According to the Becker County Sheriff’s Department, the man had been trying to hitchhike, but was unable to catch a ride when the blizzard rolled in Wednesday night, forcing him to find shelter in a nearby deer stand.

WADENA COUNTY, Minn. — A Verndale, Minn., woman was airlifted to an area hospital Thursday, Jan. 4, after crashing into a semi. The Minnesota State Patrol reports that Mary Joy Byman, 34, was southbound on Highway 71 in Wadena County's Blueberry Township when she entered the northbound lanes of traffic. Byman then struck a semi driven by 60-year-old Michael Allan Erickson, of Osakis, Minn. The Patrol stated that Byman's Toyota Camry hit the semi below the driver side door.
GLADSTONE, ND — More than 50 hay bales caught fire Tuesday, Oct. 17, on a semi trailer near Gladstone, shutting down traffic on Interstate 94. A semi truck was hauling the hay bales on the trailer when the fire started about 4 p.m. The driver of the semi was able to disconnect the trailer from his truck and was not injured in the fire, according to the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
DULUTH, Minn. -- Medical examiners have identified human remains found Sept. 28 along the Duluth Lakewalk as that of William Robert Saker, a Duluth man who hadn't been since March 10. The Duluth Police Department said Tuesday, Oct. 10, that the Midwest Medical Examiner's office had not yet determined a cause of death, but police have already said that foul play was not suspected.
ALEXANDRIA, Minn.—Three people were arrested in connection with the 15-year-old missing girl from Alexandria who was found Tuesday, Sept. 5, 20 miles away in neighboring Grant County. Alexandria Police Chief Rick Wyffels sent out a news release shortly after 8 p.m. stating that the police department believes releasing the identities of these people could jeopardize the investigation into the disappearance of Jasmine Block on Aug. 8. The public is not at risk at this time, Wyffels said. One arrest was made in Grant County, and two others in Pope County, Wyffels said.
MENAHGA, Minn. — A 66-year-old Menahga man has died and another was flown from the scene with serious injuries following a two-vehicle crash Friday morning, July 21. The crash happened approximately 1 mile north of Menahga on U.S. Highway 71. The Minnesota State Patrol said Randall Lee Hinz died in the crash.
LINO LAKES, Minn. — An inmate who escaped with eight others after a transport van carrying prisoners was taken over early Friday was caught late in the afternoon on a Minneapolis bridge. James Douglas Mitchell, 26, was the last of the nine to be captured according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. He was found on a bridge over Interstate 35 at about 4:25 p.m.
Wadena, Minn. — Shoppers got quite the surprise at the Wadena Wal-Mart when they noticied a deer perusing the aisles. The picture above has been circulating all over social media, and the Wadena Police Department confirms a deer did wander through the superstore. Authorities say it happened around 7:30 p.m., on Tuesday, May 16. A man was able to catch the deer and wrestle it to the ground by the dog food section. After some buzz in the store, the deer was brought back outside and set free.
BEMIDJI—A Bemidji Area Schools student was airlifted and five others were removed by ambulance from the scene of school bus accident Wednesday morning, May 3. A school bus filled with elementary students was heading south on Irvine Avenue Northwest at about 7:40 a.m. when it was struck by a car heading east on South Movil Lake Road, and the bus came to rest on its side in the ditch. Beltrami County Sheriff Phil Hodapp said the car failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection.
