The question of whether or not Wadena-Deer Creek High School will be fully or partially rebuilt is still unanswered. Riverport Insurance executives promised Wadena-Deer Creek superintendent Virginia Dahlstrom she would have their report by July 7. Dahlstrom informed the District 2155 school board at Monday's meeting that she did not have the report and did not know when she would receive it. "There has not been an official statement," Dahlstrom said.
The June 17 tornado that devastated the western side of Wadena passed directly over the Wadena City and Calvary Cemeteries leaving 531 monuments askew. The city cemetery has 325 monuments that are tipped, separated or slightly off their foundations. There are 206 monuments in Calvary that need attention. The process of restoring the two cemeteries is under way but is expected to take a lot of time, effort and patience to accomplish. Two tablets, one from the Wadena Cemetery and the other from Calvary, are missing and are believed to be somewhere on the outskirts of Wadena.
The Wadena-Deer Creek American Legion baseball team could manage only four hits off Sebeka pitching Tuesday as they suffered a 6-1 loss to in the Sub-District 9 baseball tournament at Menahga. Coupled with a tough 8-7 loss to Bertha-Hewitt on Monday, the Tuesday setback ended the season for Kyle Dykhoff's WDC crew. The team ended their summer schedule with a 6-8 mark. Paul Funk had WDC's number Tuesday and the Sebeka standout went the distance.
Brett Favre has made it pretty clear that he enjoys being foxy just as much as he enjoys throwing touchdown passes. Now we are supposed to believe that Favre's bum ankle is going to prevent him from playing football this fall. You might be closer to the truth if you suspect that Favre is using it as an excuse for missing those fun-filled training camp workouts in Mankato. Favre is coming off a solid season which saw him throw for 4,200 yards and 33 touchdowns.
