Organic farmers Rachel and Seth Connell are among the Wadena area residents helping to set up the Eagle's Nest veterans' community in Sauk Centre. Growing vegetables is to be one of the therapeutic aspects of Eagle's Nest, which intends to help veterans dealing with PTSD and other invisible effects of war. Seth himself is an Iraq veteran.

Firefighter Brent Johnson (not pictured) said July 25 the fire department is trying to raise $17,000 for new Jaws of Life equipment, and as of that day they raised $14,011 with the hope to get $2,989 in time to order in August.

The former Leaf River Ag Service building in Wadena started coming down Tuesday morning. Doing the demolition work is Forest River Salvage of Fordville, N.D. The building was badly damaged by the tornado that hit Wadena in June, 2010.

Gary Bolenbaugh of Wyoming, Minn. was one of many MS TRAM bicyclists settling in Wednesday late morning at Sunnybrook Park during the Wadena stop of the event, which featured a route from Bemidji to Alexandria July 22-27. MS TRAM is a fundraiser for the Multiple Sclerosis Society. The event's website states, "Movement is something many of us take for granted, but for people living with MS movement isn't a guarantee."
