Sebeka earns doubleheader sweep of Wadena-DC

Walks and mistakes proved costly for the Wadena-Deer Creek softball team in a Park Region Conference doubleheader against Sebeka on May 4 in Wadena. The Trojans capitalized on multiple opportunities and earned a 13-3 and 11-0 sweep of the Wolverines.

The Wolverines issued nine free passes in game one, which the Trojans took advantage of in the first game.

Sebeka pushed three runs across in the first inning, capitalizing on four free passes in the inning. The big inning hurt the Wolverines throughout the doubleheader. The Trojans scored four runs in the fifth and five in the sixth.

Courtny Warren drove in a run in the third with a single, plating Hailey Wiederich, who walked to start the inning.

Wiederich drove in two runs in the sixth with a double, which cut into the Trojan lead late in the game.

Wiederich had two hits and drove in two, while Warren had a hit and a run batted in. Kyla Ness added a hit as well for the Wolverines in game one.

Morgan Palmer connected for a solo home run in the sixth inning for Sebeka. Jolee Lillquist and Mackenzie Nelson had three hits each for Sebeka.

Ava Rathcke picked up the win. She allowed three runs on four hits. Mackenzie Carsten took the loss. She allowed three runs on one hit and walked four in a third of an inning.

Rathcke had the Wadena-DC bats off all day. In game one, she induced 13 flyouts, while in the second game, she induced seven ground outs and four flyouts.

Rathcke was the winner in the second game. She allowed just two hits and struck out three. Carsten took the loss in game two. She went three innings, allowed nine runs on 11 hits and walked eight.

Kyla Ness and Kate Schmidt had hits in the game for the Wolverines. The sweep moved the Wolverines to 6-5 overall and 5-3 in the Park Region Conference.
