Wolverines drop regular season finale on the road

The Park Rapids Area Panthers handed the Wadena-Deer Creek girls basketball team their seventh straight loss with an 80-54 victory on Feb. 20 in Park Rapids.

The Wolverines closed out the regular season with a 7-18 record overall and a 1-6 record against Section 8AA opponents.

The Panthers used a balanced attack in the win with four players finishing in double figures. Paige Johnson led the way with 21 points, while Rilee Michaelson and Kaisa Coborn finished with 14 points each. Jaiden McCollum closed out with 13 points.

The Wolverines fell behind 36-28 at the break, but Park Rapids Area put the game out of reach in the second half, outscoring the visitors 44-26 in the second half.

Kennedy Gravelle paced the Wolverines with 14 points, while Casey Volkmann added 12. Ashley Adams and Mackenzie Carsten both finished with 10 points in the loss.

Park Rapids Area improved its season mark to 13-10 with a game against Menahga remaining on its schedule. The Wolverines fell to 7-16 and closed out the regular season. The Wolverines now await their fate for the Section 8AA playoffs. The section is seeded using the Minnesota-Scores Quality Ratings Formula and the matchups will be announced on Feb. 24.
