Mainstreeters oust Wolverines

The Sauk Centre Mainstreeters rallied to edge Wadena-Deer Creek 7-6 Tuesday in a West Sub-Section 6AA game on the WDC diamond.

Sauk Centre entered the tournament as the No. 5 seed while the Wolverines entered with the No. 4 seed.

Jake Krause continued to hit the ball hard for the Wolverines as he went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Matt Laughlin clubbed a two-run homer as he went 2-for-3 at the plate.

Laughlin started on the hill for the Wolverines and was hung with the pitching loss.

The loss gave the Wolverines a final season record of 8-10.

WDC 11-6, Pequot Lakes 8-5

Jake Krause went 7-for-8 and drove in seven runs as the Wolverines swept the Patriots in a Mid-State doubleheader May 23.

Krause went 4-for-4 at the plate in Game 1, drove in four runs and scored two.

The WDC senior did not let up on the Patriots in the nightcap going 3-for-4 with three RBIs and one run.

Krause’s performance at the plate highlighted a big hitting effort by the Wolverines who had 15 safeties in the opener and 11 more in Game 2.

Krause doubled three times and tripled once in the twinbill.

Christian Berg, Mitchell Swanson and Ricky Price combined for seven hits, six runs and three RBIs in Game 1.

Isaac Laughlin started on the hill for WDC in the opener and went six innings. Laughlin notched the win despite walking 10. Joe Wallgren picked up a save with one inning of no-hit relief work.

Aspen Florey and Gaven Bickford both drove in two runs for the Patriots.

The Wolverines held off a Pequot Lakes rally in the bottom of the seventh to edge the Pats in the nightcap.

Berg earned the save in the one-run win and Swanson gained the win.

Swanson and Berg backed up Krause in the second game with two hits and two runs apiece.

Florey, Austin Mesenbrink and Hunter Leslie all had two hits apiece in the loss.
