Eagles defeat Wolverines 21-4
Lead-off hitter Shane Novak triggered a 21-hit attack with a 5-for-5 performance at the plate as the New York Mills Eagles defeated the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines Friday in Wadena.
Novak scored three times and drove in two runs. Brandon Kupfer went 3-for-4 in the No. 3 spot, drove in three runs and scored two. No. 5 hitter Adam Patron went 3-for-5, scored three times and collected one RBI. Dan Kraft was 2-for-2 with two runs and three RBIs. Damon Tumberg drove in a pair of runs. Tuycker Skoblick and Tyler Patron both scored three runs.
Mitchell Swanson went 2-for-3 at the plate for WDC and scored once. Alex Redfield was 2-for-2.
The Eagles were leading 6-2 when they broke the game open with an 11-run fourth.
Skoblick went the first four innings to gain the mound win. Christian Berg was hung with the loss.
WDC Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff was impressed with the hitting skills of the New York Mills squad.
“Credit New York Mills for pounding out 21 hits,” Dykhoff said. “They have a great team that will be hard for anyone to beat.”
