Five Wadena boxers headed for Region 4 bouts

Kevin Harper, John Johnson, Blake Herron, T.J. Steward and Cole Cottrell are slated to compete in Class A bouts when the 2013 Region 4 Boxing Tournament comes to Wadena’s National Guard Armory.

Harper, an Upper Midwest champion two years ago for Wadena, will fight at 114. Johnson is set to go at 132. Herron will face a 141-pound opponent. Steward and Cottrell will box at 152 and 165, respectively.

Wadena fighters boxing in Class B action will include 132-pounder Albert Boldt and 90-pounder Trystan Powers.

Female fighters set to box for Wadena include 110-pounder Nikola Schulz, 120-pounder Anissa Mench and 145-pounder Kira Olilla.

Joining the Wadena club will be clubs from Fergus Falls, Leech Lake, Brainerd, Hibbing, Detroit Lakes, Willmar, St. Cloud and White Earth.

Boxing action will begin at 7:30 p.m. both Friday and Saturday evenings.

The tournament’s Class A winners advance to the Upper Midwest Tournament April 27-28 at Palace Casino in Cass Lake.
