Wolverines skate past Flyers 8-5

Christian Berg scored a hat trick and Bridger Pettit racked up six points Tuesday as Wadena-Deer Creek topped Bagley/Fosston 8-5 at Albert Kaiser Arena.

The Wolverines outscored the Flyers 5-2 in the first two periods. Pettit and Dylan Phillips scored first-period goals for WDC. Berg iced two goals in the second period while Mitchell Swanson put in a short-handed goal.

The two clubs combined for 31 shots on goal in the wild third period.

Swanson, Berg and Pettit all scored for WDC.

Swanson finished the game with two goals and three assists.

Wesley Janson kicked out 24 shots to gain the net victory for WDC.

Aaron Leintz came up with two goals for the Flyers and Sean LaVine had two assists.

The Wolverines won for the fourth straight time and improved to 10-8 overall.

Chris Holman's Wolverines travel to Red Lake Falls on Tuesday, before hosting Northern Lakes on Thursday.

Christian Berg's second goal of the game at the 3:25 mark in overtime Jan. 26 lifted the Wolverines over Kittson County Central.

Berg's first goal of the game came at 14:02 of the third period and tied the game at 4-all. Berg assisted on WDC's first three goals.

Bridger Pettit gave the Wolverines two goals and two assists. Jake Krause scored a goal and assisted on Berg's overtime goal.

Dalton Klegstad came up with a pair of goals for KCC. Kyle Petersburg was credited with two assists.

Bridger Pettit joined WDC's 100-point club with a first-period assist and Mitchell Swanson scored four goals as the Wolverines held off the Flyers on Jan. 24 at the Wadena Ice Arena.

Pettit became the 15th member of WDC's 100-point club when he assisted Christian Berg in setting up Swanson's second goal of the night.

Pettit finished the night with a playmaker and two goals. Swanson added one assist to his four goals. Berg came up with two assists. Dylan Phillips contributed two goals and one assist.

The Wolverines dominated the first half with 15 shots on goal to Bagley/Fosston's and led 2-1 going into the second period.

The two clubs were tied four times in the second period and went into the third period knotted at 5-all.

The Flyers could not find an answer for Swanson in the final period, as the senior scoring ace scored two of WDC's four goals, the first in a short-handed situation. Mike Behl also scored a short-handed goal for the Wolverines, and Phillips iced his second goal of the night to put WDC up 9-6 at the 10:27 mark.

Aaron Leintz came up with two goals apiece and two assists in the loss. Sean LaVine had back-to-back goals in the second period. Jesse Dukek contributed one goal and two assists.

Wesley Janson started in goal for the Wolverines and stopped 11 shots. Cory McManigle stopped 14 shots in 34 minutes of playing time.

Bridger Pettit and Mitchell Swanson led the way as the Wolverines crushed the Storm in a Jan. 22 contest on their home ice.

Pettit came up with six assists and two goals to tie Swanson's record for points in a single game. Swanson recorded a hat trick and one assist to join the program's 100-point club.

Christian Berg also had a big game for the Wolverines with two goals and a playmaker.

Jake Krause contributed two goals and one assist.

Wesley Janson stopped 14 shots.
