Three Wadena boxers notch wins at local armory

Wadena's Kira Ollila, Cole Cottrell and T.J. Steward racked up ring victories Dec. 15 as the Wadena Golden Gloves Boxing Club held their first card of the 2012-2013 season in the Wadena Armory.

Ollila stopped Willmar's Kathleen Brabender at 155, Cottrell defeated Fergus Falls' Seth Carpenter at 165 and Steward overwhelmed Blake Herron in the 145-pound main event.

Bob Tubandt saw two of her Wadena boxers lose their bouts. Emily Boldt was decisioned by Willmar's Diamond Tello at 115. John Johnson found himself up against Fergus Falls' Sergio Garcia at 135 and lost by decision.

Willmar's Alex Duran was a winner by decision over Detroit Lakes' Chase Metaiak at 122 and Braydon Campbell, fighting at 152 under the Golden Lakes-Brainerd banner, scored a decision over Detroit Lakes' Matt Mason.

Three fights had to be cancelled, due to inclement weather. Wadena's Kevin Harper was scheduled to face Willmar's Eloy Zavala at 124. Wadena's Albert Boldt was slated to fight Leech lake's Charles Oothoudt at 128. Detroit Lakes' Reed Frank and Leech Lake's Chaskae Roper were lined up to square off in a 128-pound bout.

The Wadena Boxing Club is scheduled to host another card at the National Guard Armory Jan. 12. Fights begin at 7:30 p.m.
