Pirates come up short in 3-1 loss to Panthers

The Verndale Pirates bowed to a quick Parkers Prairie club 3-1 in the season opener for both clubs Tuesday in Parkers.

After dropping a 25-19 decision to the Panthers in Game 1, the Pirates dominated the second game 25-16. Parkers returned the favor in Game 3 with a 25-13 trouncing. Amy Revering's club was able to squeak past Verndale 25-22 in the decisive fourth game.

"We blocked well, we played the middle well, but we could have served better," Verndale Head Coach Shelley Glenz said.

Teresa Moenkedick led the Pirates with 11 kills and nine digs. Sarah Moenkedick dished out 13 assists and Elyssa Kern chipped in with eight. Jordyn Glenz had a good night at the net with six solo blocks and seven assists.

The Panthers posted an impressive 21-8 record last year. The young Pirates had a 9-17-3 record.
