Post 171 ousted from District 6

An 8-3 loss to Staples-Motley in the District 6, Division II tournament Friday capped a 26-game season for Kyle Dykhoff and his Wadena-Deer Creek baseball team.

Post 171 squared off three times, losing their tournament opener to Albany 10-3 Thursday afternoon, then beating Maple Lake/Mora 9-4 Thursday night before being ousted by Staples-Motley.

Dykhoff's WDC club beat No. 1-ranked Staples-Motley twice in the sub-district tournament to advance into the four-day district tournament at Browerville as the No. 1 team.

Jordan Wick went 3-for-3 and drove in two runs as Staples-Motley avenged the two sub-district defeats in Friday's loser's out game at Browerville. Austin Redemske doubled, scored a run and drove in two RBIs.

Mark Kossan pitched a complete game for Staples-Motley. Kossan gave up a solo run in the first but proceeded to throw five straight scoreless innings. Kossan scattered seven hits while walking two.

Jeremy Hoemberg, Wyatt Weber, Jake Rude and Ryan Redfield all had solo hits for WDC.

Jonathan Goeden hung with the mound defeat.

Post 171 was guilty of seven errors in the loss.

Post 171 reached the second round of the loser's out bracket by hammering Maple Lake/Mora with a six-run sixth inning.

Goeden, Jake Krause and Christian Berg all collected two hits in the win. Krause drove in three runs while Berg drove in one. Goeden scored twice. Ryan Redfield went 1-for-3 at the plate, scored twice and drove in a run.

David Najjar got the starting nod for WDC and pitched until the seventh when Jake Rude came on to strike out two of the three batters he faced.

Josh Olmscheid sparked a 13-hit Albany attack with three hits in four trips and four RBIs.

Post 171 was only guilty of two errors but mental mistakes led to three three-run innings by Albany.

John Elliot backed Olmscheid up with two hits, two runs and one RBI. Riley Volt went 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Redfield went all the way for WDC on the hill walking five and fanning three. Cody Stich walked one and fanned three in pitching a complete game victory for Albany.

Goeden and Rude combined for four hits and two runs in the loss. Post 171 closed the season with a 16-9-1 record.

Paynesville advanced to the state tournament.
