BHV Legion drops pair to Park Rapids

A solid Park Rapids squad took two from Steve Riewer's Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Legion squad 13-3 and 12-11 Monday at Park Rapids.

Tyler McCollum went 4-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and five RBIs as Park Rapids grabbed Game 1 in six frames.

Matt Fretham sparked BHV at the plate with two hits in three trips.

McCollum chalked up the mound with and Ethan Bakken suffered the loss.

Rilee Johnson and Cory Odlund sparked the Park Rapids crew as they rallied to score four times in the bottom of the fifth to claim the nightcap. Johnson went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBIs. Odlund was 3-for-4 in the cleanup spot and drove in two runs.

Bakken and Austin Selvey swung strong bats for BHV. Bakken went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs in the No. 3 spot. Selvey backed him up in the clean-up spot with two RBIs.

Nick Brown went the distance in the loss.

Coming on the heels of a 14-5, 16-10 sweep of Walker and a 6-4, 15-2 split with Staples-Motley, the Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale squad saw their season mark settle at 3-3.

Steve Riewer's squad will travel to Wadena Monday for a doubleheader slated to begin at 5:30 p.m.
