Wolverines run streak to six by sweeping Lakers
The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines ran their win streak to six games Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of Detroit Lakes.
Kenny Sakry scattered five hits while striking out five as the Wolverines beat the Lakers 3-1 in the opener.
All three WDC runs came in the third. Jake Rude went 3-for-3 with a double and scored a run. Jonathan Goeden went 2-for-2 and drove in a run.
The Lakers were led at the play by J. Johnson, who went 2-for-2 and reached once on a walk. K. McLeod reached three times for the Lakers.
Sakry turned the pitching chores over to Ryan Redfield in Game 2, but supplied plenty offense in a 10-2 victory. The WDC senior went 2-for-4, scored twice, drove in two runs and stole two bases. Big Jake Krause also had a good game at the plate going 2-for-3, scoring twice, reaching three times and driving in one run. David Najjar was 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Christian Berg drove in a pair of runs.
A. Eiter paced the Lakers with two hits.
Redfield walked two and fanned six in six innings of work. Jake Rude gave the Wolverines a perfect seventh.
"We played solid games of small ball-bunting, base-running and defense," WDC Head Coach Kyle Dykhoff said.
The victories boosted WDC's season mark to 10-6. Dykhoff's team stands third in the Mid-State Conference with a 7-5 mark.

WDC 4, Sebeka 2
The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines turned two twin killings Monday in a 4-2 non-conference win over Sebeka.
The Wolverines fell behind early but errorless defense and their two double plays enabled starter Matt Laughlin and reliever Jonathan Goeden to keep the Trojans at bay.
Kyle Dykhoff saw his WDC crew erupt for four runs in the third inning against Sebeka's Sam Tellers.
Jake Krause had a good game at the plate with two hits in three trips and two RBIs. David Najjar went 2-for-4 and scored once.
Paul Funk was the only Sebeka player to collect two hits as Laughlin and Goeden combined for a five-hitter.
