Craig Klawitter's Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines staged a two-out, seventh-inning rally Monday to top Staples-Motley 11-10 and gain a split of their Mid-State Conference doubleheader in Wadena.

Michaela Lehmkuhl swung a potent RBI bat for the Wolverines driving in six runs as she went 2-for-3 at the plate. Avery Jackson, Melissa Moenkedick and Ashley Tuttle combined for six hits, three runs and four RBIs in the victory.

The Wolverines were cruising along with an 8-3 lead when the Cardinals erupted in the bottom of the fourth with a seven-run uprising to go ahead 10-9.

Tuttle led off WDC's seventh with a bloop single. Katelyn Peters popped out, attempting to sacrifice Tuttle to second and the Cards were able to double up Tuttle. Catilyn Volkmann then reached on a grounder and Morgan Lugert singled to put runners on first and second. Lehmkuhl won the game with a base-clearing double.

Victoria Witthuhn started for the Wolverines and pitched 3 1/3 innings before giving up the job to Volkmann.

The Cards won Monday's first game 6-4 by snapping a 5-5 tie in the seventh. An appeal at third base killed WDC's attempt to tie the game in the bottom half of the seventh.

Volkmann went all the way for the Wolverines walking just one.

Moenkedick had a big game at the plate with two hits, a triple and three RBIs. Jackson doubled and scored twice.
