Shockers topple Braves in season opener

Jamie Nordlund homered and Jordan Wohlwend gave the Wadena-Deer Creek Shockers seven good innings Sunday in a 4-2 Hi-10 League victory over Bluffton.

The season opener saw Nordlund connecting in his first at-bat in the first inning to give the Shockers a 1-0 lead. Nordlund later brought Wohlwend in with a sacrifice to give him two RBIs for the day.

Jake Krause and Ryan Redfield also came up with RBIs for the Shockers. Krause drove in Travis George in the fourth when he reached on a fielder's choice. Redfield sacrificed in J.J. Truax in the eighth.

Wohlwend threw shutout ball for the first six frames and left the game in the seventh with six strikeouts. George came on to pitch the last two frames.

The Braves scored solo runs in the seventh and eighth. Jonathan Goeden scored on a single by Cody Geiser. Marc Sweere walked and scored when Geiser reached on a fielder's choice.

The Braves used four pitchers in the game. Starter Dustin Geiser was hung with the loss.
