Meyer wins Little Amik II shot with 50-9 toss

Logan Meyer overcame strong competition from Ada-Borup's Brian Blasey Tuesday in claiming his second straight shot put championship at the Little Amik II meet in Bemidji.

The Wadena-Deer Creek senior, who devoted himself to training for the shot put during the winter season, put the shot 50-9. Blasey also topped the 50-foot mark with a toss of 50-0.25.

Brody Wangsness came up with a seventh place time of 10.49 in the 60 hurdles while Neil Janson placed ninth in the tough 400 dash with a time of 57.47.

WDC's 4x200 team ran a 1:48.08 in boys' competition for 12th place honors.

The Bemidji Lumberjacks captured first in the 24-team boys' meet with 99 points. Pillager, behind four first place finishes by Wesley DeLong, took second with 85. The Wolverines were 16th with 12.

Emma Schmitz paced the Wolverines with a fifth place time of 5:59.94 while Keiann Steward was sixth in the 60 dash with a time of 8.67.

The Wolverines were eighth in the girls' 4x200 relay with a time of 2:00.33.

Bemidji took top honors in the 23-team girls' meet with 102 points. The Wolverines were 16th with nine.

Terry Olson's WDC track teams will travel to Minnewaska Tuesday for their first outdoor meet of the season.
