The Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines are trying to rebuild their tennis team this spring but the problem is not inexperience, it is a shortage of players.

Coming off a year that saw them jump to the No. 6 seed in the section playoffs, the Wolverines find themselves hurting for numbers in the varsity ranks.

"We are looking at building the tennis program for the high school," WDC Head Coach Pete Tranvik said. "Other athletic directors in our conference are aware of our situation and are willing to let us try to rebuild the program so it does not go under."

Senior Austin Korkowski is set at No. 1 singles with juniors Mike Paavola and Drew Larson ready to go at No. 2 and No. 3 singles and senior Eliah Anderson slated to play No. 4 singles.

"We have a solid 1-4 singles lineup," Tranvik said.

The Wolverines will have juniors Shane Perry and Matt Green and sophomore Kyung Hun Kim for doubles play doubles. Junior Nick Torkkola and freshman Michael Small will play exhibition tennis in the early going.
