Miron to compete Down Under
A Wadena-Deer Creek High School student is going Down Under to participate in volleyball tournaments in Australia this summer.
Emily Miron, a 16-year old junior, was invited to go to Australia to compete in the Down Under Sports volleyball tournaments. Miron will leave for Australia on July 8 and be there for eight days.
Volleyball athletes will compete in a two-day event featuring 10 games. They will spend two days traveling there and two to three days practicing before tournament competition starts.
Down Under Sports was founded in February 1989. The sports programs "use common language of sports to bridge the continents and provide a forum for athletes from around the globe to compete head to head in the sport they love," according to a press release from the organization.
This year's events include competition in football, cheerleading, basketball, volleyball, cross country, wrestling, and track and field.
"Down Under Sports' goal is to continue to provide athletes who excel in their sport the opportunity to experience the culture, beauty and grandeur of the land down under all within the framework of spirited and intense competition," the press release said.
It will cost Miron about $4,000 to make the trip. She will be sending out sponsorship letters to businesses to help raise money for the trip. Those wishing to donate can contact Emily's mother, Jackie at (218) 371-9112 or email her at email@example.com.
