Big second half propels Rebels past Pirates

Tate Benning pumped in 25 points and Logan Riedel added 20 Tuesday as Eagle Valley came up with a big second half in trouncing Verndale 75-53.

Dallas Ehrmantraut and Travis Lollar answered for the Pirates with 19 and 10 points respectively. The Pirates shot a cool 35 percent from the field and made just five of their 26 three point shots for 19 percent.

Halftime found the Pirates on top 32-30 but the Rebels caught fire in the second half and out-scored their guests 45-21. Eagle Valley went on a 24-4 run over the final six minutes of the game to ice the win.

"Our inexperience is not allowing us to finish games and our losses are piling up because of it," Verndale Head Coach Jordan Hinkle said. "The kids are playing extremely hard. They just need to continually develop the mental game of basketball."

Lollar and Christian Siedschlaw combined for 12 rebounds in the loss.

The Rebels are 13-6 on the season while the Pirates are 6-13.
