Wolverines crush Rangers before falling to Panthers

The Wolverines placed second in the Crosby-Ironton Triangular Thursday defeating Crosby-Ironton 50-18 but losing to Park Rapids 51-21.

Tristin Godel won both of his 106-pound matches by fall. Waln won by fall and technical fall at 113. Also going undefeated were Josh Lawson at 132 and Jacob Ludovissie at 152.

WDC Head Coach Norm Gallant felt the 30-point loss to Park Rapids hid some great matches. WDC's Jake Waln racked up his first varsity win at 120 with a 9-4 decision over Logan Johnson. Jake Ludovissie was able to notch a 4-2 decision in overtime against Park Rapids' Zach Steffen. WDC's Tony Reurink and Park Rapids' Brandon Ritter wrestled into triple overtime at 220 before Ritter was able to pull out a 4-2 win.

"The score ended up lopsided, but what a great dual," Gallant said.

Park Rapids crushed Crosby-Ironton 60-12 for top team honors.
