Raiders fifth at BBE

Dillon Card and Colin Turchin took top honors in their respective weight classes Friday as Mike Barthel's Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale Raiders placed fifth in the eight-team Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa Jaguar Invitational.

Card won the 182-pound title by scoring a 3-1 overtime decision against BBE's Dillon Knutson, the sixth-ranked wrestler in the state. Turchin pinned his way through the tournament and handed Kerkhoven-Murdock Sunburg's Isaac Froehlich just 32 seconds into their 285-pound match.

Turchin is presently ranked second in the state while Card is ranked 10th.

The Raiders racked up 82 team points withsome added help of Andrew Bounds, who placed third, and Justin Gordon and Dalton Baker, who finished fourth.

"It was tougher then our section tournament and we wrestled well. We started off flat and lost a lot of matches that we should have won but then we settled down and came back," Barthel said.
