WDC skaters bow to Detroit Lakes, Greenway

Darin Estey scored twice as the Greenway Raiders skated to a 7-1 victory Friday over the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines.

The Raiders out-shot the Wolverines 47-15 on their home ice. They dominated the first period shooting 18-2 but neither team was able to put up points. A 19-4 shooting advantage in the second period led to a 4-2 Greenway lead going into the third stanza when the Wolverines put nine shots on goal to Greenway's 10.

Mason Freeman scored WDC's lone goal in the second period on an assist from Matthew Spar at the 4:52 mark. The Wolverines were playing without the services of No. 1 scorer Mitchell Swanson and No. 3 scorer Christian Berg, who are both out with injuries. Swanson has 12 goals and seven assists while Berg has three goals and 10 assists.

Erikur Arnason kicked out 14 shots for the Raiders. Wesley Janson recorded 40 saves in the loss.

Detroit Lakes 3, WDC 1

Connor Collins scored two goals, including the eventual game-winner, as the Lakers topped the Wolverines Thursday on Wadena's home ice.

Matt Spar scored a penalty goal to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead at the 6:54 mark of the first period.

Collins evened the score at 16:47 of the first period when he slipped in a short-handed goal off a feed from Taylor Magnuson.

Collins put the Lakers with a power play goal 58 seconds into the third period. Kyle Herrmann gave the Lakers a two-goal cushion at the 8:05 mark.

The Lakers out-shot the Wolverines 36-15 and dominated the third period shooting 12-1.
