Dragons slay Blue Devils in season opener

Emma Lemke picked up five points with a two goals and a playermaker Friday as the Litchfield Dragons skated to a 5-2 victory over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Wadena-Deer Creek in their season opener.

The Blue Devils struck first when Morgan Zeise found the net in the opening period. The Dragons evened the score when Lemke took a feed from Kennedy Sommerfeld.

Lemke picked up a goal and two assists in the second period as the Dragons grabbed a 4-1 lead. Sarah found the net twice.

Alexa Desens iced the final goal for Litchfield with an assist going to Lemke.

Katelyn Barthel sliced into Litchfield's lead by scoring an unassisted goal with just 16 seconds left in the game.

"The defense looked good for the first game and Anna Sturdavent and Kylee Damm played well," Blue Devils Head Coach George Behl said. "Offensively we need more shots from our forwards."

The Dragons out-shot the Blue Devils 37-17.

The Blue Devils will host Mid-State Conference foe Detroit Lakes in a 7 p.m. contest Tuesday, Dec. 6.
