Wolverines dominate in Mid-State finale

Brittney Noon collected 15 kills and the Wadena-Deer Creek Wolverines recorded 52 digs in a dominating 3-0 Mid-State Conference victory over Crosby-Ironton.

Sue Volkmann saw her team win 25-5, 25-11 and 25-15.

The victory helped the Wolverines complete their fifth straight perfect season in conference play.

The state-ranked Wolverines improved their record to 18-3.

Caitlin Volkmann paced a balanced defensive effort with 11 digs. Heather and Hope Theisen joined Avery Jackson with eight digs apiece. Noon and Sydney Schissel both had seven.

Emily Miron spiked 10 kills for the Wolverines.

Heather Theisen led WDC with 34 assists.

The Rangers managed just seven kills against WDC's strong defense. Missy Foote led C-I offensively with seven kills.

Wolverines' win streak stopped at St. Michael

The Wolverines saw their 50-match winning streak come to an end Friday in the St. Michael-Albertville when they fell to state-ranked Minneapolis Southwest 2-1 in the first round of the St. Michael-Albertville Tournament.

The streak began in the 2009 Class AA state tournament in St. Paul.
