Card leads Pirates past Owls

Freshman quarterback Dillon Card took charge Tuesday night scoring three touchdowns and passing for one more as the Verndale Pirates clubbed Hancock 36-14.

Card hit receiver Dallas Ehrmantraut with a seven-yard in the first quarter to open the scoring. He later cashed in on runs of seven, eight and nine yards.

Card hit on 13 of his 25 passes for 207 yards. Kory Stave caught four passes for 100 yards and Ehrmantraut grabbed five balls for 48.

Colton Moyer hit the century mark in rushing logging 100 yards on 19 attempts. Moyer also scored on a two-yard plunge. Andy Bounds picked up 89 yards on 13 carries.

The Owls had no luck on the ground against the Pirates gaining just 33 yards on 13 rushing attempts. The Owls did better through the air as Taylor Holleman hit Jordan Miller on TD passes of 12 and 59 yards.

The victory was Verndale's second in just five days and lifted Mike Mahlen's club to 3-2 overall.

Verndale 14, B-H 8

Andy Bounds broke off an 18-yard scoring run with 2:22 left in the fourth quarter Friday night to lift the Pirates over the Bears in a Park Region Conference game.

Dillon Card hit Dallas Ehrmantraut on a third and 30 play to set up Bounds' winning run.

Colton Moyer made the interception in the fading seconds that sealed the win for the Pirates and gave them a 2-2 record. The loss dropped the Bears to 1-4.

The Pirates struck first in the low-scoring contest when Card found Kory Stave open for a nine-yard TD pass.

Bertha's Matt Fretham, who rushed for 162 yards on 36 carries, tied the game with a nine-yard run in the third quarter.

Bounds picked up 146 yards on 33 carries. Moyer rushed for 30 yards on just two carries.

Dallas Ehrmantraut caught four passes for 64 yards as Dillon Card completed seven of his 13 passes for 92.

Ehrmantraut had a team-high 16 tackles while Alex Walsvik recorded 12 tackles and Moyer and Card had 10 each.
